It’s a read in the bath 🛀🏻 kinda day. I have had this book sat on my shelf forever, waiting patiently to be read. ‘Red Queen’ 👑by Victoria Aveyard is a dystopian/ fantasy full of all the ingredients that I love: Magic, Royalty, mystery, romance and everything in between. This series has been all over bookstagram this last year or so, and I’m so happy that I finally picked it up! I have just under 100 pages to go, and I’m having an early night to make sure I finish it tonight. Have you read it? What did you think?
I’m burning my @novellyyours ‘mad for plaid’ candle that came in one of my sub boxes this month. It smells delicious 🕯🕯🕯You can see all my unboxings on my story- don’t worry, I have spoiler alerts too!#redqueen#bookstagram#bookish#victoriaaveyard#yareads

I’ve just finished reading ‘Hallelujah Anyway’ by Anne Lamott, and I really love the authors philosophy. I watched he now famous Ted talk a little while ago and was so impressed with her candid manner and laid back style. Lamont is a well known public figure and is widely published, but, I confess that this book is my first introduction to her work.
Focusing on showing mercy in a changing world where it is so easy to make snap judgments about other people, and so hard to forgive. I love how Lamott keeps it real, she doesn’t flower her words, or pull her punches. She gives it to us straight, and with her inimitable wit and wisdom, leaving the reader to ponder the message.
Her take on growing old: “Almost everything but the beauty of nature fails- vision, hearing, feet, memory, the random organ. Most of us try to live in some variation of the serenity prayer, in acceptance, courage, and wisdom. But our minds and bodies do not always cooperate.” P38.
I enjoyed it so much that I finished it in a single sitting. This would be a perfect gift. (Not sponsored)

I’m praying it’s done for Christmas 🎄 We’ve moved the sofa out so I snapped this quick pic while I can.🙂🙃🙂

So I’ve included the non-fiction reads too. I’m hopeful to get through these, since I have some extra time on my hands, but I am quite likely to add and remove bc I’m a bit of a whim reader.
⚡️Percy Jackson & the Olympians (book 2 )⚡️ I read the first and since purchased quite a few, I need to get a move on with this series.
🌙Hallelujah Anyway by Anne Lamott. 🌙 I enjoyed a podcast by the author so I’m anxious to read some of her work.
🏠At Home by Bill Bryson🏠 is another author I’m excited to read. He discusses the history of the home in a fun, witty but informative way.

Have you ever purchased a book based on its beautiful benign cover, then discovered, to your horror 😱that the story held within its pages a malignancy so great that you had to force yourself to read on?
No?... then you don’t own ‘The Impossible Fairy Tale’ by Han Yujoo. 📝
This was one of the books that I picked up on my Colorado vacation.
Originally written in Korean and translated by Janet Hong, this book is literature written in a lovely musical language. But it is is very disconcerting as the novel moves along. You are drawn in to this story of two schoolgirls from very different backgrounds; one is MIA, who has two daddies and gets anything she wants just by manipulating each one. She’s a nice enough girl, for whom coveting pretty pencils and nice sweaters, takes up the majority of her time. Then across the classroom is ‘child’ whose life consists of fading into the background as much as possible, lest she receive more bruises, scars and burns. We don’t know the child’s real name, but we know she wants Mia’s life.As the story progresses, we become intimate with both girls lives and desires. We root for child and we want Mia to notice her. But when she does... I am torn between whether I enjoyed this book or not. The writing was certainly beautiful, no doubt about it, but some of the scenes were very disturbing to me ( and I’m a horror/thriller lover) because they seemed to cross a line. I have to say it was the single most disturbing book that I’ve ever read! I’d love to hear the thoughts of those of you who have read it.
A much different edit for me today, because this beautiful book demands it. ‘Silence In the Age of Noise’ by Norwegian explorer Erling Kagge is a delicately beautiful book that celebrates the strength of silence in a world of constant commotion. Kagge immersed himself in silence when he decided to trek across Antarctica to the South Pole over the course of fifty days, without another soul in sight. “Eventually, in complete isolation, I began to notice that nothing was completely flat after all. The ice and snow formed small and large abstract shapes. The uniform whiteness was transformed into countless shades of white.A tinge of blue surfaced on the snow, somewhat reddish, greenish and slightly pink. The landscape seemed to be changing along the route; but I was wrong. My surroundings remained constant; I was the one who changed...’At home I only enjoy ‘big bites’. Down here I am learning to value the minuscule joys. The nuanced hues of the snow. The wind abating. Formations of clouds. Silence.”
❄️❄️❄️ The book continues, by suggesting ways to celebrate silence in all its forms, and by suggesting that by removing the noise from your world whenever you have the chance; you enable your senses to be enhanced, and can better embrace and appreciate the beauty of the world, within the pauses.
I absolutely loved this book and will be gifting it to friends for Christmas. Not only does it have such a thought provoking message, but it is adorned with such lovely photographs. This book is stunning in its simplicity, and I will be forever grateful to the publishers (Emily Murphy) @pantheonbooks for sending me a copy. 🙏🏻 It will be treasured.
I Just want to give a little shoutout today to a couple of fabulous small companies who have some awesome products that I love 💕 (not a rep, no codes but just want to show love). 💕These are perfect gift 🎁ideas. First for the bookish, 📚did you know that @acourtofcandles also make fabulous bath 🛁products, room sprays and even tea; all that pay homage to some of our favorite book characters😍👌🏻...
and then for a little luxury, 🛍you need to visit Emi at @unicornmanor 🦄🦄🦄for some absolutely delicious candles, with a hint of magic woven in them. 🕯🕯🕯 I’ve bought so many candles in every flavour from Emi for gifts for the ladies in my life, and she even makes custom candles too.
I hope your weekend has been awesome! I’m now sat watching the #Hallmark channel for the rest of the night 💝 I just love the holidays, don’t you? 🎄☺️
Swipe !⚡️⚡️So I have a confession to make... Ive only just read ‘Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire’ 🏆 The truth is, I was put off by the movie. I’ve watched all the HP movies, and this one was a huge disappointment to me. It felt rushed and disjointed, and half-assed tbh. NOW I KNOW WHY! 💡 There was so much missing from the book. J.K. Rowling had good reason to make the book last 734 pages- because it needed it. The movie felt chopped because it was! I am SO HAPPY that I finally picked up the book. And of course I’m kicking myself for not doing so sooner (I have only myself to blame) I now think this movie should have been a two-part and everything kept in. What do you think?
⚡️Anyway my boys new bedding makes a super backdrop for a Potter post! And look at these amazing #harrypotter bookmarks that just arrived from @boookmarky 😍😍😍 and the little pin/badge too! I love everything these guys make. They are seriously talented 👌🏻
⚡️And don’t forget to give Amanda @northavecandles a visit. This ‘Harry’ candle is delicious and smells of treacle tart, broomstick handle and ‘something flowery ‘ ☺️ and its tri-layered to match the tri-wizard cup!

🕵️♀️Today I’m excited to be part of the @storygramtours for ‘Her Last Day’ by T.R. Ragan @trraganauthor🕵️♀️ I’ve just finished reading it and I have to tell you, that I loved it. 👌🏻Do you love thrillers? It has some great elements, mystery, suspense; a serial killer on the loose with no reliable M.O. who kills at random and tortures his victims for fun. We have a kick ass female P.I who has a knack of getting results for other people, but who suffers a different kind of torture, because she cannot find her own sister, who has been missing for ten years.
This is the first in a new adult series and I’m definitely going to pick up the future releases!
We also have a giveaway for two finished copies of Her Last Day up for grabs!
