One of the holiest pilgrimages for the Hindus, Kedarnath Temple Jyotirlinga is located in the picturesque surroundings of Rudra Himalaya Range at a height of 12000 feet on a mountain named Kedar.
The temple at Kedarnath enshrining the Jyotirlingam of Shiva opens only 6 months a year (April-November). The priests then go to Ukhimath, where the worship of Kedareshwara is continued during the winter season. Tradition has it that pilgrims first visit Yamunotri and Gangotri and bring with them the holy waters from Yamuna and Ganga and offer abhishek to Shri Kedareshwara.
Legend goes that Nara and Narayana - two incarnations of Shri Vishnu performed severe penance in Badrikasharaya of Bharat Khand, in front of a Shivalingam fashioned out of earth. Pleased with their devotion, Lord Shiva appeared and said that they may ask for a boon. Nar and Narayan requested Shiva to take up a permanent abode as a Jyotirlingam at Kedarnath so that all people who worship Shiva shall be freed from their miseries.
As per another legend, Goddess Parvati worshipped Kedareshwar to unite with Shiva as Ardhanareeswarar. Besides, the Pandavas are believed to have visited this area several times. Arjuna is believed to have come here to pray to Shiva to obtain the coveted Pasupataastra.
Acc to most popular legend, the place came into being during the period when the five Pandavas brothers were asked to seek Shiva’s blessings purging them of the sin of killing their cousins. Lord Shiva unwilling to give darshans to the Pandavas fled Kashi to live incognito in Guptkashi, where eventually he was detected by the Pandavas.
It is believed that by praying to Kedareshwar, one can get all his desires fulfilled. 🌀✨🕉🐚🙏🏻
Suddenly, Balian stiffened and stood perfectly still and silent for several moments. "What is it?" Lagetha asked. "It was...Maximus," Balian answered, simultaneously emotional and perplexed. "What did he say?" The Peacekeeper pressed. "I am unsure..." The Oracle replied. "His voice was carried on the gentlest breeze...and his voice sounded as though it was fading. I cannot make it out. Something about freeing a Knight...or freeing something into the Night...or both? I am unsure. I do hope he is okay." Lagetha gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "He can take care of himself. He is quite a skilled warrior. He will be fine. Come, we must move on."

Talon suddenly felt a chill shoot up his spine as a red streak of lightning shot across the morning sky. "What in Oblivion was that?" Lagetha cried out. Gamric stood still for many moments. Then, he slowly turned around. "I do not think whatever caused that is in Oblivion..." He said grimly. "At least...not anymore. We're running out of time. Let's pick up the pace."
"I will take you to my commanding officer," the man replied. "But mind you, no matter your reputation, we are many within the stronghold, and if you try anything, should you be permitted inside at all, you will be cut down." Gamric nodded politely. "We understand." And so, the party followed the soldier.

"Who goes there?" A large Nord in Imperial chain mail called out. "Hail, friend," Gamric said. "I am called Gamric, and my friends are Balian of the College of Winterhold; Lagetha, Peacekeeper and Ambassador of Skyrim, and the Dovahkiin, Talon the Mighty. We seek the Emperor, to discuss terms of a truce while we deal with the threat of Oblivion." The Nord regarded the party coldly.
