I am overjoyed and grateful to announce that I’ve achieved the job I’ve dreamed, hoped, and prayed for. I‘m still in disbelief that despite all the hardships at 24 I’ll be a Pilot for Delta Air Lines. October 3rd I woke up to an email that I was invited to an interview. This was the SAME DAY in 2011 I flew an airplane for the first time. Happy Anniversary! Coincidence? In early November I interviewed and received a Job Offer. It was also in early November of 2011 while doing a training flight at FIT I heard Delta flight 1856 on the radios and was so inspired. I wanted to be like that Delta Pilot with the super cool ‘professional airline pilot voice’. Many say I’m just lucky and I somewhat agree because luck is the intersection where opportunity meets preparation. All I wanted was a chance because I’ve been prepared and anxiously awaiting it since I was 5.
I’ve done EVERYTHING in my ability to achieve this goal; from updating my application every time I flew a trip, commuting 5 hours across the country while flying 90+ hours month after month, and constantly asking questions. Many times I was up for over 24 hours after flying at work then commuting 2,000 miles home to the closest airport then to drive another 90 minutes. It’s not been an easy journey. I’ve struggled, failed, won, lost, laughed, cried, been criticized, and even been judged for my decisions but today and for years to come I can surely say it was worth it all. It was worth the commute, min days off, body aches, sleepless nights, redeye flights, tears, delays, working holidays, frustration, lack of quality of life, and Jet-lag to name a few. Regardless, I savored every moment of it because I was a Man On A Mission.
To everyone with a dream keep trying. I’m that same poor country boy from the little island of Jamaica with the big dreams who didn’t have the first dollar for school. Bradford Prep, Wolmer’s Boys’ School, Indian River Charter High School, Florida Tech, FIT Aviation, OBAP, Compass Airlines, Jamaica, My Family/Friends thank you because we’ve all won today. Momma we really made it. Your one son did it. 🔺🙏🏾❤️ #KeepClimbing
